Online Ocean Mic

Online Ocean Mic – what is it, and how can I take part?

On the first Thursday of every month, we host our Ocean Mic night, welcoming some talented performers for a night of musical merriment. It’s one of our most popular events and musicians from across South Wales travel to join in with the fun.

However, with the nationwide lockdown closing our doors for the foreseeable future, we had to think creatively. The show could go on – ONLINE! So we’re inviting musicians from all disciplines and all locations to sign up for a slot in our Online Ocean Mic nights, which continue to entertain our fantastic creative community every first Thursday.

WHAT IS IT?

Online Ocean Mic streams live on Facebook from just before 8pm on the first Thursday of the month. A glamorous and talented host opens the night with a set of their own, and proceeds to welcome talented individuals to perform from their home. At about 9pm, we welcome our special guest to perform a slightly longer set that they’ve been especially preparing for the night.

You can get a better idea of how it works through our highlights video of April’s Online Ocean Mic:

HOW CAN I TAKE PART?

Anyone can sign up to perform at Ocean Mic nights. We welcome performers of all types, from musicians to spoken word poets! On the day of Online Ocean Mic, we’ll send a Google Form to the Facebook event where you can state preferences for your set. As the night unfolds, we coordinate the line-up from behind-the-scenes, doing everything we can to organise for as many performances as possible!

The Facebook event for May’s Open Mic is now live. Join us on Thursday 7th May; sit back and spectate or sign up to play!
